The HBLW vocational school from Austria, with two classes and their teachers, once again stayed at Omnilingua School in Sanremo. Their visit from 14.09–20.09.2025 combined Italian language learning with a rich cultural and sightseeing programme. One highlight was the excursion to the picturesque village of Badalucco, located on the Argentina River, known for its world-class olive oil production.

After their Italian lessons, the group eagerly looked forward to the afternoon programme. A scenic drive by coach took them through the Ligurian mountains towards Triora, north of Sanremo. The destination: Badalucco, home of the famous Roi family olive oil.

The goal of the trip was to explore the traditions of olive cultivation in the Sanremo region, discover the history of the Roi family, and enjoy a unique olive oil tasting experience. Visitors learned first-hand: What makes Taggiasca olive oil so special? Why is it considered one of the most delicious and sought-after olive oils worldwide? Our expert guide, Margerita, welcomed us in front of the Roi Olive Oil Museum and began an engaging tour.

The Roi Family and Olive Oil Museum in Badalucco
Just 20 km from Sanremo, Badalucco is a village famous for its olive oil heritage. The Roi family has been producing olive oil in the Imperia region for over 100 years, exporting high-quality olive oils and by-products to more than 45 countries. During the tour, the students explored both the historic museum and the modern production facilities, learning about the evolution of olive growing and the family’s ecological and precise approach to cultivation.

Margerita shared insights into the family’s dedication to innovation and sustainability. Particularly interesting were Roi’s by-products, including olive-based creams, pastes, and sauces. In 2016, the company launched the Elasian start-up programme, introducing precision agriculture to protect olive trees and promote environmentally friendly cultivation. This achievement earned Roi the prestigious “Precision Agriculture” certificate.
Olive Oil Tasting Experience
The highlight of the day was, of course, the olive oil tasting session. Students and teachers sampled the famous Taggiasca olive oil, renowned for its delicate flavour, smooth texture, and international reputation. Paired with the authentic atmosphere of Badalucco, the tasting offered a true immersion into Italian culinary culture.

A Lasting Memory of Sanremo
The excursion ended with smiles, photographs among the olive trees, and bags filled with Roi products. The group returned to Sanremo not only with improved Italian language skills, but also with an unforgettable experience of olive oil tasting in Liguria — a perfect blend of culture, tradition, and flavour.

Good idea and well organised tour by Omnilingua to bring young people close to the Ligurian culture!
